Follow the material - Truth and material

 Reflection

How should a material be judged and measured? Is it through weight? or height? or even by its willingness to be manipulated in to any form the artist can imagine. Often the personality of the material creates a bond between it and the artist. However this can only ever be one sided, unless the artists starts to listen to the material on a less superficial level. It is the nature of material to relate better to objects then to ourselves. This is because the object silently listens to the needs of the material; they mutually respect each other and allow each other to be what they are. Through out these text I have witnessed the artist trying to push the materials to create objects through the manipulation of process. But how does this effect the object and to the material? Will it lose a bit of itself through these techniques or will it be stronger and more diverse for this? Is it possible that the answer lays in the middle. The resulting form now transforms leaves part of itself behind, in order to begin a new life. The more I think about the nature of materials and objects the more I draw similarities with humans. We both allow ourselves to be transformed by experiences, we both hold on our surface trace memories that lead to deeper truths inside, therefore surely it is fair to say that we make objects in our own image. That we are related to them more closely then we like to believe.
