Georges Didi-Huberan Research into material

Reflection

Material has always been adjacent to the artist realisation of achieving there scrabbled impulses in a reality. It should come to no surprise then that artist often acts to control and manipulate a material, no material complies as well as wax. wax is willing to transform itself from solid to liquid and a moment notice. It becomes malleable at the touch of a hand, it remembers positions it has been pulled into before, yet it complies to our every whim. Thinking about the connotations of the material and process is an integral part of my practice. It is for that reason the I am intrigued by the nature of wax. Very few materials give so much of themselves, yet wax seems to allow itself to be broken down and the rebuilt for the sake of the artist. However the material takes as much as it gives, after every touch it takes a print of the skin that touched it. That means that within a blob of wax there is a time capsule of prints. A collection or archive of memories and experiences, the wax secretly takes these prints and allows them to permeate its being whilst considering there forms. I will certainly attempt the engage and connect with the material on a deeper level, now that I have begun to endeavour to understand its make up.
