Thoughts on scored wood.

Thought: Upon sitting at this table, I was interested in the origins of these markings that appeared on the edges of the wood. The way the channels seem to have a lighter edge, shows a difference in depth of the carvings. Although these marks were most probably caused through woodworm, or other general wear and tear, there is a symbolic nature within these scores, that resemble similarities with ancient runes. The richness from the past life of the wood creates a level of intrigue. The tactile qualities to the materials, invites you to trace the channels with your fingers like lines on a map. I would be open to using wood as a key material within my artistic practice, not only for it's organic beauty but for the metaphors of homeland, and the primitive language it bears.

Stage 1 & 2 sketching out and carving design

Since learning about the process of wood cut printing within skills one, I have been developing Tarot card themed designs that explore the nature of wood cut printing within a old fashioned fortune telling imagery. The use of mark making created through carving out lines has a deliberate nature to it and suggests a strength of intention. Thus creating a dialogue between the qualities of line and meaning of the print. There was something organic about creating a printing block from a natural material such as wood that felt ritualistic, like reading from a slab of commandments like Moses was said to have done in the book of Exodus. Carving into a tablet feels almost biblical.

Ritual Bath, generating bubble forms from a lush Dragons Egg bath bomb.
Soundtrack of layered voices, (all of which my own) provide an impression of summoned spiritual entirety emerging from the waters. The melodic qualities of the voice produce a sculptural form that can be illustrated by the bubble swirls in the bath water.

Automatic Writing

A collection of words that came to me by the process of automatic writing, I believe these words to be a result of a psychic link to an unknown source. Sometimes I experience word rushes that just appear in my mind and compel me to write down messages. Often these experiences occur without warning just through general day to day activities.
