Death Tarot Card Wood Cut Print Development

Since learning about the process of wood cut printing within skills one, I have been developing Tarot card themed designs that explore the nature of wood cut printing within a old fashioned fortune telling imagery. The use of mark making created through carving out lines has a deliberate nature to it and suggests a strength of intention. Thus creating a dialogue between the qualities of line and meaning of the print. There was something organic about creating a printing block from a natural material such as wood that felt ritualistic, like reading from a slab of commandments like Moses was said to have done in the book of Exodus. Carving into a tablet feels almost biblical.
