Watercolour/ Absinthe paintings of Natural Forms
Reflection
When painting I don't like to think, or at times keep my eyes open. Sometimes I won't even concentrate on what colour is on the end of my brush. To me it important to be so engrossed with a feeling that nothing else matters. My subconscious will undoubtedly pick a theme for me, and I like it that way, I will often start with a statement "show me what matters" and invite my subconscious mind to create a dialogue with the paint and show me what I am painting, often it is plant, or root based. The lines flow from my brush so naturally that it is hard to stop them. Recently I have begun developing these works and experimenting with absinthe, as I discovered by chance how it pushes back the paint and creates a gorgeous crust, or darker edge to the work. Negative space comes naturally when you don't know what it is you are painting, thus applying layers of complexity to the piece. The poetry of paint is never more apparent then when you give into the paint itself, and allow yourself to become a tool for the material to communicate with.
