Ginger Root - Ritual carving

Ginger Root Ritual Carving

Root ginger has been known for its healing properties for centuries, what I love about it especially, is the fiery taste and bulbous appearance of the root, there is something magical about its form. By carving into the flesh of the root I investigate into the properties that it possesses, like the village shaman would do before offering it up as part of a cure. I carve in notches to create a texture that would emulate feathers, furthering the tribal metaphor. If I were to repeat this experiment, I would try out a fuller range of carving activities on a number of materials to collect a more robust set of research data.
