Interim exhibition - Curation - Reflection

Interim Exhibition - Curation

 Different Ideas for poster:

Reflection

There are barely words to describe this process, still here goes. From the get-go we tried to open up the lines of communication between all curators so that we could all have an input into the exhibition. After walking around in a group and seeing all the artists works and taking notes about what they do and how it could be put into the show, we agreed to met up in the white room and discuss themes. Although even at this point there were fractions beginning to emerge, at the meeting, one person told the group that there was going to be three mini groups and everyone would be divided into working with a mini group, which no really objected to, however this soon became a problem as before long some people seemed to refuse to communicate in group chats and discussions leaving everyone else in the dark to an extent. I then created a proposal form and asked all the artists to fill it out an return it before the Christmas break, hardly anyone did, I then spent the Christmas break chasing up forms, once I got them back I shared them with the group and we had another meeting to discuss the exhibition which only a handful of people attended. Harriet did a wonderful job of making the posters and webpage, and Hannah wrote the booklet very professionally, But on the day the theme of the exhibition was compromised by the way the work was hung and displayed. In short our group fractioned into two groups due to faulty communication and once that happened it was like a runaway train. I found working with the artist a mostly positive experience although there was a few challenges throughout the way. Although, there are highlights to how the exhibition was hung, sometimes coupling traditional pieces with more contemporary works challenging the dialogue between them both, the stress of the experience takes away from the overall reading of the space for some.
