Roland Barthes - Toys - Contextual Research

Reflection

Toys have always been a strange thing in my mind even ever since I was a child, I have always found it odd that children are given things that are meant to entertain them. Instead of letting their imaginations run free with whatever object they find. Often toys are designed to prepare the child for life in the modern world. However, can plastic fake phones and spinning tops ever really do that? Isn't it only through meaningful play that people especially children can ever find ways to help them understand and prepare for the environment around them. Toys that adults make for children often are derived from concepts that adults are familiar with and comfortable with processing. De-familiarising the core issues behind the plastic figurines is desensitising the child from an emotional response to a real life situation.
